Bhubaneswar International Airport
About Bhubaneswar International Airport
(BBI) The main airport serving the state of Orissa is Bhubaneswar Airport, also referred to as Biju Patnaik Airport. The airport bears the name of Biju Patnaik, the former Chief Minister of Orissa and renowned pilot
and freedom fighter. Currently only serving domestic travel, Chief Minister Navin Patnaik has recently asked for Bhubaneswar airport to be designated as an international airport once ongoing construction is finished.
This will allow the airport to accommodate 384 international passengers during peak travel hours in addition to 1000 domestic passengers. The distance between the airport and the city center is about 3 km.
Currently, the airport only has one terminal that is used for domestic travel. There are currently a good number of airlines that fly to different parts of the country, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Port Blair, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and many more.
These airlines include Air India, IndiGo, Jet Airways, JetKonnect, and Air India Regional. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) is responsible for the upkeep of Biju Patnaik Airport. The authority makes sure that the passengers have access to first-rate amenities.
At the moment, AAI is in charge of the new terminal’s construction. The Bhubaneshwar Airport Authority is currently rolling out additional services, such as more spacious parking areas that can accommodate 400 taxis and an additional 10 luxury coach buses.
