American Airlines in May will start offering nonstop, twice-daily service from Erie International Airport to Charlotte, N.C., and nonstop once-daily service to Chicago.
Tickets for the flights will start selling on Monday.
Martin noted that the flights will start in time for people to connect to international flights to London and Munich from Charlotte and seasonal service to Athens, Greece, from Chicago.
The new flights, which will start May 3, will add an additional 18,250 seats a year to the airport’s capacity. They will also coincide with the loss of nonstop daily flights to Philadelphia by American Airlines on May 2.
The first flight out of Erie to Charlotte will depart at 7 a.m. The second flight will leave at 1:40 p.m. The flight time is 1 hour and 50 minutes.
Flights to Erie will depart Charlotte at 11:30 a.m. and 8:22 p.m. and arrive in Erie at 1:15 p.m. and 10:07 p.m.
The daily Chicago flight will leave Erie at 2:55 p.m. and arrive at O’Hare at 3:35 p.m. The Chicago-to-Erie flight will depart at 11:55 a.m. and arrive at 2:20 p.m.
